Joe Wylie granted his release

We heard the rumors for weeks. Now, we know Joe Wylie won't be a member of the University of Miami football team anymore.

The Hurricanes released the former Boyd Anderson standout safety from his scholarship Wednesday, allowing him to transfer to Tennessee State. Wylie played in three games for UM in his freshman season -- Charleston Southern, Georgia Tech and Duke.

As a senior at Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, Wylie helped the Cobras to a 9-1 record and made more than 100 tackles. His father played basketball at UM from 1988-91 and ranks 15th in points scored and ninth in rebounds at UM.

Wylie came to Miami ranked as the nation's 27th safety by Rivals.com. The Hurricanes are loaded at the position at the moment with redshirt safety Vaughn Telemaque and incoming freshmen Ray Ray Armstrong and Jamal Reid.

UM safety Joe Wylie transferring to Tennessee State

A day after the University of Miami said it expected safety Joe Wylie to remain with the program,
Wylie has decided to transfer.
Coach Randy Shannon indicated earlier this week that Wylie was still on campus and was expected
to remain at UM. But UM said Wednesday that Wylie has decided to transfer to Tennessee State.
Wylie, from Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, played only one game during his freshman season
and wanted to go to a school where he would get more playing time.

UM defensive coordinator John Lovett said in the spring he was concerned about depth at safety
behind projected starters Vaughn Telemaque and Randy Phillips and that none of the backups had stood out.

Chavez Grant, who played cornerback last season, might be used at safety. Jared Campbell and JoJo Nicholas also are in contention for playing time at safety, and ballyhooed freshmen Ray Ray Armstrong and Jamal Reid are expected to compete for immediate playing time at the position.

I did some checking regarding the 2009 roster. From "THE MAN", there are as of Wed., July 29, TSU has 103
"NAMES" ON THE 2009 ROSTER. Many of the students have not cleared for one of several reasons such as
(1) AWAITING OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS, (2) AWAITING SUMMER SCHOOL GRADES, (3) AWAITING A
NCAA RESPONSE/APPROVAL, (4) ETC, ETC, ETC. They are all expected to report Aug 7 or 8. There's one
exception, that being the student(RB) who played for Tennessee last year and was released. The coach at
Louisiana Tech indicated that he signed with them. He says he didn't. He might have to sit out a year to clear up
the situation. The Final "OFFICIAL ROSTER" will take a minute. They are working "OVERTIME".

I am glad you emailed him. I didn't want to bombard me from emails all from me.

I thought that it would be quicker to get those guys registered in the system since they were football players.

I assuming that the hold up is on the transfers from other colleges. I wonder is UF and Miami taking thier sweet turning their players over.

Joe Wylie is on campus and practicing with the fb team, he is (according to one of the fb coaches) #19

Don't no why his name has not been added to the official roster yet.

Man those O linemen are HUGE!!! I swear they made the earth quake when running some of their drills last night. lol

....the coach also mentioned a transfer lineman from Michigan St who was practicing with the team...120, can you confirm?
